Befriending Service

This service supports a trained and vetted staff member or volunteer (the ‘Befriender’) whose role is to provide companionship and informal social support to isolated older people through weekly social visits. It is particularly beneficial for people who have few social visitors, or whose opportunities to get out and socialise are limited by lack of transport or reduced mobility. The aim of the service is to form a trusting relationship over time in order to reduce isolation. The RISE Co-ordinator matches the befrienders with the people they visit, ensuring compatibility and common interests wherever possible and also regularly monitors each match. For further information on the Befriending Service please contact the centre. Please note that there may be a waiting list for this service.
